Seed Storage Made Simple: Keep Your Cannabis Seeds Fresh and Ready for Future GrowthUpdated 3 months ago

Cannabis seeds are quite resilient, but proper storage is essential to keep them viable for future

 How To Store Cannabis Seeds

In seed form, cannabis seeds are essentially in hibernation, waiting for the right time to sprout. However, certain conditions can affect their viability:

  • Humidity: If seeds are stored in a humid spot, they may sprout or become moldy. Ideal storage is a cool, dark space with humidity between 41-46°F (5-8°C).

  • Light Exposure: Light can trick seeds into using their stored nutrients too early, which can impact their ability to sprout later. Keep them away from the light!

  • Temperature: High temperatures can weaken seeds, so store them somewhere cool, like a refrigerator or a dark, cool cabinet.

  • Oxygen: Exposure to oxygen reduces the shelf life of seeds. For best results, use an airtight mason jar or a ziplock bag.

Tips for Storing Cannabis Seeds

  1. Choose a Cool, Dark Spot: This is essential for seed longevity.

  2. Use a Dark, Airtight Container: A mason jar with a lid is ideal. Adding silica packets can help keep humidity levels low.

  3. Label Your Seeds: This prevents mix-ups between strains, especially between autoflowers and photoperiod seeds.

  4. Short-Term Storage: If you’ll be germinating soon, a ziplock bag in a drawer or cupboard works well.

  5. Long-Term Storage: For seeds you plan to store for longer, a fridge is a great choice.

We recommend germinating seeds within 12 months for the best results. This also keeps them within our 12-month germination guarantee period—if any seeds don’t sprout, we’ll replace them!
